Signs of a Vole Infestation

Voles spend much of their time under grass, plants, and other cover, so you may not see them often. Instead, look for changes in your yard. Damaged plants, feeding marks, and small pathways can all point to vole activity.
01

Damaged Plant Roots

Plants may wilt or weaken when voles chew on their roots beneath the soil.
02

Chewed Plant Stems

Small bite marks around the lower stems can indicate that voles are feeding nearby.
03

Small Paths Through Grass

Narrow paths through dense grass may show where voles regularly travel around your yard.
04

Bark Damage On Trees

Voles can chew bark around the base of young trees, leaving visible damage close to the ground.
05

Missing Garden Plants

Voles may feed on bulbs, vegetables, flowers, and other plants, leaving sections of your garden damaged.
06

Fresh Droppings Nearby

Small droppings around plants, grass, or sheltered areas may indicate recent vole activity.

Lawns and Grass

Dense grass gives voles food and cover. They may create small paths while moving through your lawn.
Soil and Ground Damage

Garden Beds

Voles can feed on roots, bulbs, stems, and other plants growing in garden beds.
Eco-Conscious Pest Control

Around Young Trees

The bark near the base of young trees can become a food source, especially during colder periods.
Attraction of Other Pests

Mulched Areas

Thick mulch provides cover and keeps voles close to plants they can feed on.
Droppings Around Hidden Areas

Alonso is AWESOME! He is hardworking and trustworthy. I can’t say enough great things about my experience. From the start The Gopher Guys made everything simple and easy. They answered the phone and were able to come out the next day. Alonso explained exactly what he was going to do and knew that it was moles that were ruining our front yard. He immediately set traps and said he’d come back in a few days. He said we were dealing with 1-2 moles and he was RIGHT. On his first visit back he caught one mole and on his second visit he caught another one! He would text me when he was coming over to check the traps and he was always on time. If you have moles or gophers he is your guy! He is a professional and his word is good! For gophers or moles no need to look further…. The Gopher Guys are the BEST!

Wow! What an excellent service! We called, and Alonso arrived very quickly and set out several traps. He returned in one week and checked his traps.... he had caught FOUR gophers! He reset the traps and will return in another week to re-check the traps. Alonso is definitely a true professional at his trade. We highly, highly recommend his service.

Alonso came to my property the same day I called him. He placed 10 traps and he came back in a week to check them and he caught 4. His prices are fair compared to other companies in my area. I reside in Salinas California I’m very happy with the results in my yards.

FAQs

FAQs

1. What are voles attracted to?

Voles are attracted to areas with plenty of food and cover. Grass, roots, bulbs, garden plants, mulch, and dense vegetation can provide both. Properties with these conditions may offer voles easy access to food while giving them places to stay hidden.

2. How can I tell if I have voles on my property?

Look for damaged roots, chewed stems, missing plants, bark damage, small paths through grass, and fresh droppings. Voles often stay hidden, so these signs may be easier to notice than the animals themselves.

3. Can voles damage trees and plants?

Yes. Voles can feed on plant roots, stems, bulbs, and bark. Young trees may be especially vulnerable to bark damage near the ground. Continued feeding can weaken plants and affect the appearance of your landscape.

4. How does vole trapping work?

Vole trapping services begin with an inspection of the property. Our team looks for fresh signs and areas with active movement. We then choose suitable trapping locations based on those findings and monitor the results to help reduce vole activity.

5. Is vole control safe for pets?

The Gopher Guys uses eco-conscious pest control methods and takes care when working around residential and commercial properties. During your service, our team can explain the methods being used and any steps you should follow around treated areas.

6. How long does vole control take?

The time needed depends on the size of the property and the level of activity. A small problem may require less attention than a larger infestation. After inspecting your property, our team can explain the expected service and monitoring needs.

7. How can I prevent voles from returning?

Vole prevention starts with reducing places that offer food and shelter. Keep grass maintained, remove excess vegetation, manage thick mulch, and watch for fresh signs around plants and trees. Early action can help prevent a small problem from becoming larger.
